SARAT CHANDARLAPATY
Sarat Chandarlapaty is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He has devoted the past 15 years to breast cancer research. In 2012, Sarat joined the faculty at MSKCC and has focused on understanding the basis for resistance to endocrine therapies. His laboratory helped identify and characterize mutation in ESR1 as the dominant mechanism of clinical resistance to aromatase inhibitors. Following on the heels of this work, he has helped lead the development of ER antagonists as a means of overcoming ER mutants and has led major investigations into resistance to CDK4/6 inhibitors. The laboratory’s ongoing work is to understand the molecular basis for hormone and growth factor dysregulation of breast cancer progression and drug resistance.
